Chief Adviser announces government's intention to hold polls in 3rd week of December 2008 Display || Hide

CA addresses the nation on 12 May 2008

Chief Adviser of the Caretaker Government Fakhruddin Ahmed announces on 12 May 2008 in an address to the nation that general election would take place in the third week of December 2008. The other major highlights of the address are: 1. The long-running ban on indoor politics all across the country will ease from Tuesday, 13 May 2008. 2. The government will start dialogue with political parties, starting on May 22. The Chief Adviser's Office will send out invitation letters to political parties from Tuesday, May 13th . 3. The government will either relax or suspend certain relevant provisions in the emergency powers rules to facilitate electioneering and create a proper context for the polls. 4. Ahead of elections, the government will form a national charter with the opinions of all related parties, which is meant to bring a qualitative change to government and politics in post poll Bangladesh. New Initiative of the Government in creating incentives for sending foreign remittances

The Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment announces a new policy through a recent notification special civic facility for remitting NRBs. US citizens require to pay US$ 131.00 to get visa to travel to Bangladesh

As per the principle of reciprocity, it has been decided that to get regular visa in order to travel to Bangladesh all US passport holders require to pay US $ 131.00 instead of $ 100 w.e.f 08 July 2008. It will be effective for all kind of regular visa categories either single or multiple entry visas. All other prerequisites for visa applications remains as before.

Foreign Adiser Dr. Iftekhar strongly condemns terrorist bombings

Dr. Iftekher Amed Chowdhury, Foreign Adviser, who is currently in the Malaysian Capital to attend the D-8 conference, strongly condemned the bomb explosion at the entrance of the Indian Embassy in Kabul that reportedly killed at least 41 people on 7 July 2008. He also condemned bombing near the Red Mosque in Islamabad that has led to at least fifteen deaths the day before on 6 July. "This was a heinous act of cowardice perpetuated by terrorists, and we condemn it in the strongest terms. Terrorism cannot and will not win. Our sympathies to the families of the victims, to the Indian and the Pakistani Government and their people" the Foreign Adviser said in a statement issued from Kuala Lumpur.
